Maja brachydactyla, Maja squinado
Maja squinado was formerly used for both Atlantic and Mediterranean populations, and most Portuguese records are under that name. A revision of the genus revealed two species, one in the Atlantic (Maja brachydactyla) and another in the Mediterranean (M. squinado) (Neumann, 1998). Reports from the Portuguese coast refer to M. brachydactyla.
